Business news | More high street store closures announced this week.
18/Aug/2023The high street has been significantly impacted by store closures, as several popular chains have made the decision to shut down their shops. Notable retailers such as Marks & Spencer, Iceland, and Boots are among those closing branches, with some closures taking place as early as this month.
Marks & Spencer:
Marks & Spencer recently announced a major shake-up, which includes the closure of 67 large branches across the UK. However, it's not all doom and gloom, as the company also has plans to open more branches, with 104 new food stores in the pipeline. Several store closures have already been confirmed for the near future, including Eagles Meadow in Wrexham and Deansgate in Bolton.
Boots:
Boots has also closed a number of stores this year, and more closures are expected to follow, with one branch shutting down as soon as next week.
Here are the upcoming store closures for Boots:
- Holywell, Flintshire - August 26
- Windhill Road, Wakefield - October 6
- Upper Warrengate, Wakefield - October 7
- Glastonbury - October 13
- Guildford Road, Woking - end of October
- Gorleston, Great Yarmouth - November
- Jardine Crescent, Coventry - no firm date
- Front Street, Prudhoe - firm no date
Iceland:
Iceland has also experienced store closures across the UK in recent months, and three more closures are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
Here are the upcoming closures for Iceland in September:
- Llanelli, Wales - September 2
- Market Shopping Centre, Crewe - September 16
- Grange Road, Birkenhead - September 16
